Blanca
The town, named for Blanca Peak was founded in August 1908 from a land lottery in the San Luis Valley, of south central Colorado. It was incorporated in 1909. Situated at 7,756 feet, Blanca is a tiny community along Highway 160 in South Central Colorado.
Visitors passing through Blanca on their way to the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve should head to Zapata Falls, where the Sangre de Cristo snowmelt cleaves area rock. Along the same route, the improbably located Colorado Gators Farm shouldn’t be missed.

Smith Reservoir
Smith Reservoir stores 14,058 acre-feet of water at an elevation of 7,716 feet! The Smith Reservoir State Wildlife Area is a highlight for those birding within the San Luis Valley. There are two boat ramps located near the parking area on the southwest shore of the reservoir. Both motorized and non-motorized boats are permitted. There are three designated dispersed, primitive camping areas available for visitors along the shorelines roads of the Smith Reservoir SWA.
There is much to explore and enjoy here!
